Caleb's Colorado Trip

After spending an early Christmas break with family in Nebraska, Taylor and I set our route to the Central City KOA Campground. We arrived Wednesday the 21st, unhitched from the camper, leveled, and chocked it. We woke up the next morning to 8 inches of fresh snow at our site. Winter Park Resort was reporting the most snow overnight so we hustled to get there before it got tracked out. Upon arrival we were stoked to see empty parking lots and small lift lines. SkiingDue to wind chill and -11 degree air temperature, most skiers and boarders seemed to stay inside. Taylor and I did not. We enjoyed every inch of that new powder, especially since we have been riding icy east coast resorts. With tired legs and cold faces we ended the day with last chair.

The following day we returned to Winter Park and discovered the Mary Jane entrance, which seemed to be more of the local side of the mountain.  Since it was getting close to Christmas and every one was on vacation we were greeted by full parking lots and long lift lines. The weather had changed quite a lot over night which inspired the ski and boarders to try to get as much fresh leftovers as possible. Some of our favorite runs were on the Mary Jane side of the mountain due to the wind loading on that side the snow was really nice. We enjoyed riding off the gondola as well as Prospector Express. Taylor and I definitely enjoyed Winter park but left excited to ride some other mountains as well.

Christmas Eve we traveled to Eldora about five miles outside of Nederland Colorado. It was very fun and a great family atmosphere. They definitely have smaller terrain than Winter park with some bare patches under the lift. We really enjoyed that they catered their woodword facilities to all levels of skill with extra small, medium, and large features.

The next day we enjoyed Christmas morning from the warmth of our camper then decided to get a few more laps at Eldora. SkiingAs a token of appreciation towards the lifties working on Christmas Day, we made sugar cookies to give them as we loaded onto the lift. As we expected, there were not many people riding which gave us the opportunity to mostly have the park to ourselves. We have decided that it has been one of our favorite resorts so far!
